We’re looking for an experienced Duty Manager to join Belfast’s busiest bar – The Dirty Onion! Located in the Cathedral Quarter in Belfast's oldest building, the Dirty Onion is open 7 days a week with live music and great craic! This is a full-time role which requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

We’re looking for a confident, customer-focused individual with management experience at a similar level in a fast‑paced city centre bar, who can lead, motivate and inspire a team. You’ll be outgoing, professional and passionate about connecting with people, while being driven to hit targets. A creative flair is a big plus — whether that’s delivering events, collaborating with local musicians and artists, or bringing fresh ideas to boost revenue and enhance the overall experience.

What you’ll do

Reporting into the Assistant General Manager and General Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the smooth day‑to‑day running of the bar, leading shifts, motivating the team, and ensuring exceptional customer service at all times. You’ll be hands‑on, organised, and confident managing busy services and smoothly executed events.

  • Leading and supervising service team during busy shifts
  • Upholding exceptional customer‑service standards and complaint handling
  • Overseeing opening and closing procedures, including cash‑ups and security protocols
  • Managing stock control, orders and deliveries
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and adherence to health and safety procedures
  • Supporting the training and development of service staff

What we’re looking for

  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a similar‑level management role within a high‑volume bar or late‑night venue
  • Proven ability to lead from the front and inspire a team during busy services
  • Strong understanding of bar operations, including keg management and stock rotation
  • Experience managing labour costs and driving team productivity
  • Confident handling cash, tills, and end‑of‑day financial reconciliation
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Well‑presented, professional, and customer‑focused
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively
  • Flexibility to work late nights, weekends and peak trading periods
