The Role:
As an Engineering Manager, you will have a mandate for build and run of a large and complex Engineering domain. Working closely with the Product Managers & Product Owners you will enable more frequent and faster deployments, improve software quality and reduce change failure rate and improve the mean time to recover in the event of an issue. You will create new products and deliver continuous value by delivering the product roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote business WoW and standards across engineering teams.
- Oversight of design and delivery (development, testing and release/deploy) of engineering solutions for backlog items.
- Oversight of release to production (Go live) inc. AIS.
- Define and govern software quality standards, service transition rigour and compliance to security to improve software delivery and operational performance measured through metrics such as MTTR, Change Failure Rate %, Deployment lead time and technical debt.
- Overseeing Engineering Demand mgmt. & Capacity management and be the ultimate Engineering Development escalation point for Product and Delivery.
- 3rd party management, understand contracts, commercials, performance management, metrics and drive to meet and exceed expectations.
- Ensuring compliance of engineering teams and ensuring timely audit responses to known issues.
- Defining the Product Domain minimum viable ‘Definition Of Ready’ and ‘Definition Of Done’ with each team
- Ensuring that Operational demand (defects, Tech Debt, risk/audit) are correctly represented in the Product Backlog in conjunction with Product Owners and Managers. .
- Working with the team and peers to develop shared, ambitious OKRs aligned to the strategy and hold ourselves accountable to these.
- Ensuring a culture of Stability, Security, Data Protection, and accessibility is built into all processes, procedures & products.
- Ensures appropriate monitoring and altering is defined, set and reviewed on a regular basis.
- Eliminating and avoiding the accumulation of technical debt.
- Orchestrate a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement across the area, driving efficiency and automation.
- Develops a culture of awareness and accountability and compliance for Cyber, data security and compliance.
- Ensure that engineering costs for the portfolio are known, monitored and optimised.
- Leverage the other shared services available from the wider technology groups to ensure consistency of standard Policies, processes, and procedures as appropriate.
- Proactively seek relevant external insight, trends and innovation and help identify necessary and/or desirable third-party technology.
- Participate in \’on call\’ rota and fulfil requirements and demands as appropriate.
Skills & Experience:
- 10+ years experience in Software engineering delivery or IT Transformation Delivery at enterprise level, preferably in an agile at scale environment
- Experience of owning and managing senior business stakeholder relationships
- An appropriate degree, equivalent qualification or experience
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills are necessary
- Excellent, high-level people management skills combined with project management skills are required.
