Our Knowledge and Information team is responsible for reviewing and transferring records for preservation at The National Archives. The growth in digital records means the team is embracing the use of AI and other advanced technologies to tackle complex challenges. The work is vital and protects the UK’s relations with other countries, our defence interests, the intelligence services, and the personal data of individuals, all within a secure legal framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preserving important records.
  • Protecting secure data.
  • Embracing new technologies.
  • Delivering the organisation’s knowledge and information policies.
  • Supporting the delivery of information policies, including records management, information sharing, legislation, intellectual property and data repository use.
  • Building networks and providing expert advice on the implementation of knowledge and information management to diverse stakeholders.
  • Developing robust and efficient information architecture for data repositories.
  • Conducting audits to monitor and measure compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Championing good knowledge and information management throughout the organisation.
  • Managing paper and digital records, transferring relevant documents to the National Archive, and attending conferences on behalf of the business.

Qualifications

  • Relevant RQF Level 3 qualification, Foundation Certificate in Information Governance, or an IT/computing qualification.
  • Substantial experience with content management systems and databases.
  • Technical knowledge of information organisation, including taxonomies, dictionaries and glossaries, meta-tagging and standards.
  • Practical understanding of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, capable of drafting high-quality reports, interpreting data and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
  • Confident speaker with the ability to develop relationships at all organisational levels.
  • Innovative thinker, ready to develop creative initiatives and embed processes.
  • Desirable: Practitioner level CSEG KIM Accreditation and some knowledge of FCDO Services’ business.
  • Self-motivated and inspirational manager, ready to lead colleagues on a journey of continuous development and improvement.
