We are looking to recruit an experienced clinical coder to join our busy Practice. You will be responsible for the clinical coding of all relevant information into patients' medical records using the EMIS clinical system, maintaining accurate and confidential patient records in line with data protection standards. The job will be 20 hours per week, times and days to be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job:

  • Accurately code clinical records.
  • Review all incoming correspondence, filing the document and entering pertinent information into the patient's medical record in accordance with the coding protocol.
  • Liaise where necessary with the appropriate staff to clarify information for coding purposes.
  • Highlight clinical action and workflow to the appropriate clinician or team.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records in line with data protection standards.
  • Process workflow accurately from electronic and scanned documents, coding procedure, diagnosis and all relevant QOF information, adding diary dates where needed.
  • Organise the medical records of patients whom you are coding to link problem titles.
  • Liaise with patients regarding any relevant information to ensure safeguarding information is correctly coded and inform safeguarding clinical and admin lead when required.

About us:

We are a busy GP Practice in Wigan Town Centre and we have a broad patient demographic. We are based in a purpose-built health centre and have on-site parking. We have a large and friendly practice team which consists of:

  • 4 Partners
  • 2 AP's
  • Dedicated Nursing Team (3 Practice Nurses, Nurse Associate, HCA)
  • Friendly Reception and Management Team

Job responsibilities:

  • Review all incoming correspondence, filing the document and entering pertinent information into the patients' electronic medical record in accordance with the Coding Protocol with attention to QOF.
  • Highlight clinician action and workflow to the appropriate clinician or team as per Workflow Protocol.
  • Organise the medical record of the patient whom you are coding, to link problem titles.
  • Recognise own knowledge limits and seek advice from clinical or administrative colleagues as appropriate.
  • Ensure Safeguarding information is correctly coded and inform Safeguarding Clinical and Admin Lead when required.
  • Carry out administrative related tasks as delegated by Clinical Lead and Management Team.
  • This list is not exhaustive and the postholder may be required on occasion to support with ad hoc tasks in line with the needs of the Practice.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience of clinical coding within a GP surgery using EMIS web.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Awareness of confidentiality, data protection and information governance.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Punctual and committed to supporting the team effort.
  • Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively interpreting data as required.
  • Knowledge of QOF and Primary Care Standards.
