Job summary
The Paediatric Diabetes team is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN). The successful candidate will join our friendly and dedicated team. Within the nursing team, you will be working alongside a Band 7 PDSN, a Band 6 PDSN, and a Band 4 Nursing Associate. The wider MDT team consists of two Paediatricians with an interest in diabetes, a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, a Psychologist, a Psychology Assistant, two Administrators, and a newly recruited Youth Worker. The post holder will share the leadership for the nursing service, having management roles within the team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical leadership and be responsible for the day-to-day management, delivery, and development of the Specialist Diabetes Nursing team alongside the current Band 7 in post. In particular:
- To work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to meet the outcomes of care required for the Paediatric Diabetes Best Practice Tariff.
- To share in the leadership of the Paediatric Diabetes Nursing Team alongside the current Band 7 PDSN.
- To be involved and support the further development of the insulin pump therapy service and provide education and training for developing Band 6 PDSNs and Band 4 Nursing Associate.
- To participate in service improvement, monitoring, and improving standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, and evidence-based practice.
- To deliver an expert nursing service to children and young people with diabetes and their families in the acute and community setting, providing structured and individually planned education and support.
