Are you an experienced dietitian with an interest in maternity? We are looking for a dietitian with a real passion to drive forward and promote excellence within the maternity department as part of the diabetes specialist multi-disciplinary team. You will be responsible for providing clinical leadership within the team to improve pregnancy outcomes and support a positive patient experience. You will work in partnership with other professionals, pregnant people and their families. You will champion patient involvement in the planning of their diet, and you will demonstrate a patient-centred approach by providing sensitive and complex information in a compassionate manner throughout pregnancy, including pre-conception, antenatal and postnatal periods.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of research findings and new practices within nutrition and dietetics, with reference to Women and Birthing Person’s Health, and apply this knowledge to improve practice.
  • Be responsible, and accountable, for service delivery to women and birthing people.
  • Be able to initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.
  • Provide women and birthing people, and families, with information and education ensuring they have meaningful choices that enhance their experience.
  • Ensure practice is supported by research, evidence-based practice, literature and peer review.
  • Provide expert dietary advice within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Make recommendations to the obstetric and endocrinology/diabetology team regarding titration of medication for the management of diabetes in pregnancy.
  • Critically evaluate existing evidence (local, national and international) to provide expert specialist nutrition advice to the development of evidence-based, culturally appropriate education and information materials, within financial constraints.
