Can you help England’s hospitals improve the care they give to people living with diabetes? People with diabetes suffer too much avoidable harm as inpatients in hospital. The reasons are complex but many hospitals have found ways of addressing the problems. Diabetes UK is committed to working with clinicians and Trusts across England to improve care, reduce the number of avoidable harms and improve the experience of people with diabetes.
The Improving Diabetes Inpatient Care Programme will identify the support that clinicians need to drive improvement, share good practice examples from across the country and develop a roadmap for lasting change.
We are looking for an experienced programme manager to work with the National Clinical Lead for Inpatient Care to:
- Engage clinicians to better understand the causes of and potential solutions to the main issues.
- Gather examples of good practice from across the UK and beyond.
- Create a collection of accessible, practical resources and tools to help those who want to improve diabetes care (including training programmes).
- Develop a ‘roadmap’ plan for the future of inpatient care.

The successful applicant will have:
- A passion for improving healthcare.
- Experience of working with and engaging healthcare professionals, managers and commissioners.
- Experience of engaging people to facilitate the sharing of learning and ideas.
- Working knowledge of the NHS and the challenges of hospital care.
- An understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare professionals and commissioners when improving the quality of healthcare services.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and influence a wide range of audiences.
- Highly developed project management skills.
