Apprentice Butcher

Apprentice Butcher

Full-Time On-site
The Devonshire Group

Following the successful progression of our last two apprentices into permanent butchery roles, we are looking for our next Apprentice Butcher to join the Farm Shop and Café team. This is a fantastic opportunity, working alongside an experienced butchery team and developing the practical skills needed for a long-term career in the industry.

As a Butchery Apprentice, we will train you in all aspects of modern-day butchery, including:

  • The professional breakdown and preparation of beef, lamb, pork and venison
  • Preparing value-added products
  • Handling meat and fish safely and professionally
  • Food safety and health and safety
  • Understanding the commercial side of running a successful food business
  • Developing the skills and confidence to progress within the industry

The apprenticeship is hands‑on, and combines classroom learning (10%) with practical, on‑the‑job training (90%). Your development will be supported by our Butchery and Fish Manager, alongside a specialist tutor as part of your training.

No previous butchery experience is required; however, we are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys engaging with customers and working as part of a team
  • Is comfortable handling meat and fish products
  • Can work in a timely, organised and tidy manner
  • Is flexible and willing to learn
  • Has a genuine interest in food and developing a skilled trade

Hours and Location

This is a full‑time, permanent role based at Chatsworth Farm Shop. You will work 37.5 hours per week, with shifts falling between 8am and 6:15pm. You will work 5 days per week to include one weekend day. There will also be occasional opportunities to travel to suppliers, farms, training facilities and trade shows as part of your development.

What we offer

As an apprentice with the Devonshire Group, you will receive:

  • A permanent contract
  • Full support and training both on and off the job
  • Colleague benefits and privileges, including discounts and free entry to our sites. Details of our employee benefits can be found here: https://devonshiregroup.co.uk/work-with-us/working-at-the-devonshire-group/

  • The opportunity to develop a long‑term career within butchery and the wider Devonshire Group. We are committed to creating opportunities for people to develop their careers with us, and apprenticeships are an important part of this.

Our core values are Always Improving, Decency, and Being Inclusive. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to thrive.
