Job summary: As part of Suffolk Primary Care, which is a group of eight GP practices across Suffolk, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and flexible Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Paramedic Practitioner, preferably with a prescribing qualification, to join our team at Derby Road in Ipswich.

The practice serves 19,400 patients.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our urgent, on‑the‑day care service, supporting both adults and children with a wide range of minor illnesses.

Derby Road has two sites, based in the heart of Ipswich, with close travel links to the beautiful Suffolk countryside and the coast.

The vacancy is for 20 hours a week on Thursdays and Fridays, 8‑6.30 pm. Flexibility is crucial to accommodate training, holidays and other commitments.

We have an established team with a strong focus on customer service and communication.

We would love to hear from candidates with GP surgery experience, although those who can demonstrate flexibility and a range of transferable skills are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should be able to work calmly and professionally as part of a team, multi‑task, and have a strong command of written and spoken English with an excellent telephone manner.

Good time‑management skills, the ability to follow protocols and an attention to detail are essential.

The interview panel will consist of a minimum of two people. Shortlisting will be on Tuesday 4th Aug with interviews W/C 10th Aug.

Main duties of the job

• Work within professional boundaries to accurately examine and assess patients with an undifferentiated diagnosis, from a physiological, psychological and social perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly.
• Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating drug and non‑drug treatment methods into a management plan.
• Seek advice and support from a senior clinician as appropriate to inform decision‑making around patient care.
• Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
• Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness appropriate to patient needs, and administer medication in accordance with PGD/Independent Nurse Prescribing.
• Provide information and advice on prescribed or non‑prescription medication, on medication regimens, side‑effects and interactions.
• Work with patients to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
• Ensure full and accurate documentation in patient notes of clinical history, physical examination, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential

• Registered Nurse, or equivalent
• Independent prescriber
• Resuscitation – minimum of Basic Life Support (BLS)
• OR
• Registered Paramedic with HCPC
• Minimum of three years post registration with demonstrable experience of using diagnostic skills
• Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
• Be working toward Level 7 capabilities and to complete the clinical pillar competencies of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework.

Qualifications – Desirable

• Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Advanced Level functional assessment qualification
• Demonstrates accountability for delivering professional expertise and direct service provision
• Assessor/Mentorship course
• Evidence of working in a community/primary care setting
• Experience in teaching & supporting junior staff/students

Experience – Essential

• Significant post registration experience, to include

• History taking
• Assessment

• Minor injury
• Recent clinical experience in related client group, i. e. acute/community setting
