About the role
- This will be a permanent role- 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
- To provide a holistic counselling service for students, ensuring that students are provided with therapeutic and emotional support.
- To provide a high-quality counselling service to students experiencing a wide range of emotional problems.
- To provide support, guidance and advice to parents, carers and the academy.
- To observe confidentiality (within safeguarding and age appropriate boundaries) and to support the academy in providing excellent teaching and learning for all students.
- To contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people.
- To be responsible for the confidential counselling services for students as needed.
- Undertake one-to-one sessions with students.
- To be responsible for advice and support to staff in relation to their work with vulnerable students, giving the correct advice.
- To promote progress and well-being of students and identify and celebrate student attainment and achievement.
- To be responsible for maintaining appropriate and confidential records.
- To have a thorough knowledge of the Mental Health provision locally and nationally and be able to sign post appropriate outside agencies to those in need.
- To establish and maintain positive relationships with referral support services.
- To continually review and evaluate the service.
- To report incidents that are seen or reported regarding students’ immediate safety and welfare.

Who we are looking for
- Education to degree, other relevant professional qualifications
- Evidence of ongoing professional experience and development
- Counselling qualification
- To be able to keep calm, listen and act appropriately and professionally
- Commitment to delivering high-quality counselling and support, being both proactive and reactive to issues and situations
- To demonstrate knowledge and experience of providing high quality counselling and guidance
- Experience working with and supporting young people, colleagues and families
- Have a strong understanding of the range of issues that could be faced at ages 11-18 years old
- Ability to work with range of teams and individuals within an Academy setting and external agencies
- Ability to maintain accurate records of written and communication verbally given
