As Depot General Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day leadership, performance, and strategic management of the Redruth depot. You will ensure all operational activities run efficiently, safely, and profitably, while delivering outstanding service to customers and maintaining high team engagement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily running of the depot, ensuring all the needs of customers are consistently met and exceeded.
- Ensure the successful delivery of multi-drop, trunking, and 2-person crew deliveries.
- Drive on-time performance, service quality, and operational KPIs across all functions.
- Ensure all deliveries and collections are completed in line with company standards and customer expectations.
Financial & Commercial Responsibility
- Manage depot performance against budget and financial targets, controlling costs where appropriate.
- Monitor and improve productivity, efficiency, and resource planning.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvement, business development and cost savings.
People & Resource Management
- Lead, motivate, and develop a multi-functional team of managers, drivers and warehouse operatives.
- Manage performance through regular reviews, coaching, and clear objective setting.
- Promote a positive culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and high performance.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training to build a strong and capable workforce.
- Work with procurement to attract, onboard and train sub-contractor delivery drivers.
- Ensure efficient people resource planning so that all routes are appropriately staffed and recruitment agency costs are kept to a minimum.
Vehicle Management
- Take responsibility for availability and condition of your fleet of vehicles, ensuring vehicles are well maintained and compliant with legal and company requirements.
- Monitor and enforce completion of daily vehicle checks and defect reporting, ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
- Work closely with Dash Fleet Services to ensure minimal vehicle downtime.
- Ensure appropriate vehicle allocation and availability so drivers have the correct vehicles to complete their duties efficiently.
- Promote a culture of vehicle care, compliance, and responsibility across all drivers.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and safe working practices.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the depot, including safe driving, manual handling, and warehouse operations.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure consistently high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery.
- Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Act as the key point of escalation for operational or service-related issues.
Planning & Performance
- Oversee route planning, resource allocation, and depot scheduling to ensure optimal efficiency.
- Monitor and analyse KPIs such as delivery performance, damages, productivity, and compliance.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance depot performance.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations, driver hours, and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate operational records and produce regular performance reports.
Proven experience working at a senior level in logistics, transport or warehouse management. The emotional intelligence to nurture a positive work environment built on the company's core values. Excellent knowledge of transport, distribution and delivery operations. The commercial awareness to manage budgets and drive positive financial performance. Excellent influencing, communication and stakeholder management skills. A full UK driving licence.
