Senior Support Worker will be responsible for assisting in the day to day running of the service, helping to lead a cohesive team of support staff to provide continued quality care to all service users. Senior Support Workers will comply with current legislation and standards and at all times aim to fulfil contractual requirements of the Trusts. In the interests of the service, Senior Support Workers will work closely with the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual and at all times act in the best interest of the service. The role will support the Registered Manager, in the management of a Domiciliary Care Agency supporting people with Learning Disabilities and Associated Complex Needs.
Principal Duties
- The role will involve assisting, leading and providing effective leadership for people with complex needs.
- Senior Support Workers will ensure people receive high quality support to develop and maintain their independence, take part in suitable community activities, leisure, education and other social opportunities in a personal centred practice.
Key Areas of responsibility
- Quality care of service users
- Establishment of an agreed pattern of work that is planned in collaboration with service users (and or relatives) to ensure a high standard of domiciliary care on a continual basis.
- Responsibility for supporting the admission planning, on-going assessment of care needs, reviews with Care Managers and completion of records when required by Registered Manager.
- On-going support of a flexible pattern of daily living, supporting service users freedom of choice while maintaining their privacy and dignity.
- Ensure a good level of stimulation and varied activities for all service users tailored to their preferences.
- Support of emotional and spiritual needs of all service users and at all times aim to optimise their quality of life, empower service users, where possible, and encourage their family and friends to take greater involvement in the quality of their care thereby promoting quality of life.
- Support the Registered Manager in the development of in-house systems for quality assurance of client care.
- Ensure good standards of hygiene are adhered to in all work and areas of the service and support effective systems of infection control and are in place.
- Management of Staff
- Be a good communicator, someone who is able to network and work with people at all levels.
- Supervision and support of all staff to ensure the highest standard of care.
- Support the manager to encourage maintenance of staff morale and development of a good rapport with all employees.
- Assist with conducting of formal staff meetings and holding of informal meetings as required.
- Identify any training needs for staff and address these accordingly.
- Support the manager to ensure adequate induction and training of all new staff and to provide on-going in-service training.
- Perform regular supervisions and appraisals for staff.
- Assist the Registered Manager in the implementation of the services Disciplinary, absence and sickness procedures.
- Compliance with the RQIA
- Ensure that the services are of a standard which meet and exceed standards set by regulatory bodies, including RQIA and NISCC guidelines.
- Maintaining the appropriate registration.
- Comply with domiciliary care agency legislation and standards required by the RQIA.
- To ensure that the service excels in all inspections by the RQIA, both announced and unannounced.
- Liaison with Registered Manager and Responsible Individual
- Be IT literate and write legibly, have significant experience of working in the health and social care sector and an understanding of Person Centred and Positive Behaviour support.
- Work with the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual to maintain excellent reputation of the service.
- Notify Registered Manager of any annual leave requests/paternity leave requirements or other leave requirements.
- Fulfil any other duties which the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual consider necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Storage and use of medicines
- Adhere to policies for medicines management in the service and ensure an adequate system of safe storage of all medicines in the service is maintained.
- Support the systems for administration of medicines to service users.
- Support the systems for drug ordering and administration are efficient and appropriately documented.
- Liaison with the community pharmacist and local GPs to promote quality pharmaceutical care for all service users.
- Other duties
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual to ensure the efficient running and continued development of the service.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
