JOB PURPOSE: To lead a group of support staff on duty to provide effective and appropriate quality care for people with learning and/or physical disabilities, and/or behaviours that may challenge; which aims to maximise the potential of each individual. To take a lead responsibility for whole service. To understand and implement policies and procedures of the service MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Care: 1. To provide care for Service Users as required while supporting optimal independence. 2. To review and re assess the residents needs as required and communicate changes effectively to all appropriate personnel. 3. Document clearly and accurately in the Service Users care plans. 4. Facilitate and support Service Users in decision making. Promote choice and involvement. 5. Consistently apply non-aversive strategies developed in response to challenging behaviours, and contribute to the review and development of any new strategies. 6. Ensure all Service Users medical needs are met in partnership with them and records completed accurately. 7. Following training and assessment administer medication in accordance with Company policies and procedures, 8. Demonstrate understanding of what to do in the case of a medical emergency, 9. Ensure that Clients personal property and clothing is maintained to a high standard, and report any requirements to the Registered Manager. 10. Be aware of and understand all aspects of potential abuse ensuring that the Service Users safety and well being is upheld at all times. 11. Maintain a professional and appropriate care worker / resident relationship at all times. 12. Encourage and enable Service Users to maintain acceptable levels of personal and environmental hygiene. Management and supervision of staff: 1. To allocate staff appropriately to each section of the facility for the duration of the shift when taking a lead taking into consideration resident / staff ratios and appropriate training. 2. Review the off duty to ensure safe staffing allocated and that it remains within the agreed budget avoiding agency costs particularly at weekends and bank holidays. 3. Direct staff members in their duties, ensuring that all required tasks are completed to the agreed standard. 4. Supervise care staff throughout the shift monitoring care delivered. Give effective feedback to staff as required. 5. Ensure that the care provided demonstrates a full understanding of learning disabilities and is in accordance with the agreed care plan. 6. Liaise with other agencies/professionals as necessary in partnership with the deputy manager/ registered manager. 7. Maintain accurate and factual file notes for staff as required and forward to the Registered Manager. 8. Regularly provide supervision for support worker staff. 9. Ensure Staff Members perform their role to the highest possible standard, and implement the companies Discipline & Dismissal policies and procedures as directed by Registered Manager. 10. Manage staff members attendance, annual leave and absences in line with the companys policies and procedures. 10. Escalate appropriately any staffing difficulties to the Deputy Manager/ Registered Manager. Marketing, Training and Development: 1. Actively market CWC Group by promoting a positive personal / professional profile within the local community ensuring the good reputation of the company at all times. 2. Assist the Registered Manager in the induction of new Staff Members and the provision of in- house training as delegated to do so. 3. Maintain professional knowledge and competence. 4. Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required. 5. Participate in relevant training to achieve required qualifications. Health & Safety 1. Report immediately to the Registered Manager any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, colleague, self or other. 2. Understand and implement the companys policies on Fire, Emergency procedures and Health and Safety. 3. Report to the Registered Manager immediately any faulty equipment, furniture or potential hazard. In the absence of the Registered manager take responsibility for addressing these issues with the maintenance staff. 4. At all times promote and maintain safe working practices including the security of the building. 5. Take responsibility for ensuring all equipment is clean and well maintained at all times. General: 1. Maintain financial records in line with Company policies and procedures 2. Undertake any administrative tasks as required. 3. Contribute effectively to planned reviews of care standards and develop best practice at all times. 4. Implement and monitor compliance with standards lay down by The Regulation of Quality and Improvement Authority. Report urgently to the Registered Manager any concerns identified. 5. Maintain confidentiality of all information gained in the course of your work at all times. 6. Notify the Registered manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for work, informing them of the nature of absence and expected date of return. 7. Participate in return to work interviews following a period of absence as per policy. 8. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you. 9. Be responsible for ordering, receipt and disposal of medication in line with Provincial Care Services Policy. 10. Be responsible for the change over of medication each month in line with the cycle.
