The Role: We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client's team. This role involves surveying, designing, interpreting, and estimating consultant specifications for HVAC, chilled water, and plumbing systems. You’ll play a key part in the design and estimation process, from site visits to delivering detailed AutoCAD designs and scoping documents. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and on time, whether at survey, design, tender, or build stages. This position is dynamic and requires both technical expertise and strong client-facing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and assess tender documents to produce competitive and accurate estimates.
- Obtain and compare supplier quotations, ensuring value engineering and cost efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct site surveys and client meetings to gather project information.
- Generate mechanical designs from scratch, including heat load calculations.
- Develop AutoCAD representations and create detailed scoping documents.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Research and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
Requirements & Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC/Mechanical design and estimation.
- HNC/HND/BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Strong M&E industry knowledge, particularly in data centres, telecoms, or HVAC.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and time management skills.
- Commercial awareness and ability to work under pressure.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
