Location: Barrow/Kendal/Penrith. Contract Type: Permanent and Relief Staff. CTOT is the Council’s in-house Transport Service delivering home to school transport for mainstream and SEND pupils, and home to daycentre/training for adults with learning disabilities, across Westmorland and Furness Council.

Responsibilities

  • As a Passenger Assistant, support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and vulnerable adults on journeys to school, college, or training.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of passengers from pick-up to drop-off; assist with boarding and alighting; support the driver when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, drivers, and schools; maintain accurate records; follow risk assessments to keep everyone safe.

Who we are looking for

  • Caring, confident individuals who can remain calm in challenging situations, think on their feet, and be active and supportive throughout the journey.
  • Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Willing to undertake safeguarding and health & safety training (provided) and hold an enhanced DBS clearance.
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable adults is desirable but not essential—full training will be provided.

Working hours

  • Term-time only, Monday to Friday
  • Split shifts: approx. 07:30–09:30 and 14:30–16:30
  • Flexible options available, including mornings or afternoons (job-share basis)
  • Opportunities for additional work outside term time on adult transport
