About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Civil Enforcement Officer to work across both on-street and off-street parking enforcement within Westmorland and Furness. This is a varied and active role where you will help to ensure safe, fair, and effective use of parking facilities, supporting traffic management and local economic activity. You will patrol streets and council-operated car parks, enforcing parking regulations and Traffic Regulation Orders to improve road safety and accessibility across our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol both on-street locations and council car parks, ensuring compliance with parking regulations
- Issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) and other enforcement notices where contraventions occur
- Enforce Traffic Regulation Orders and parking restrictions
- Monitor and manage the proper use of parking bays and facilities
- Inspect car parks and surrounding areas for cleanliness, safety, and maintenance issues
- Identify and report faults such as signage issues, surface damage, or misuse of facilities
- Deal professionally with members of the public, offering guidance and handling queries
- Attend adjudication hearings where required to support enforcement cases
- Work as part of a team while also operating independently in the field
Who we are looking for…
- Are confident, professional, and able to deal with the public in a calm and respectful manner
- Can work independently with minimal supervision
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Are reliable and able to work a flexible rota, including weekends and bank holidays
- Have basic IT skills and are comfortable using handheld enforcement devices
- Have a good standard of education (GCSEs or equivalent experience)
- Have experience of working in a public-facing or enforcement-related role (desirable)
