Westmorland and Furness Council, Highways and Transport service, are looking for an experienced, motivated, and friendly individual to join us as a Highways Network Technician. We are excited to offer this permanent opportunity, and this is an excellent career step for candidates looking to gain further experience in highways, transportation and construction backgrounds, within a large and thriving organisation.
In this role, you will work as part of the Furness area Highways team; preparing, designing and processing highway improvement and maintenance projects, as well as undertaking inventory collection. This includes carrying out activities relating to surveys, design, specification, and data collection and input.
Who we are looking for…
We are looking for confident communicators, as you will provide technical input and guidance to colleagues in respect of specifications and standards for highways design and maintenance. You will also provide advice on the application of legislation, regulation, policy and principles to both internal and external customers of the Council where appropriate.
This role is a great opportunity for candidates who are keen to develop their experience of highway, transportation, or construction design, as well as furthering their knowledge of local government and dealing with customers. Awareness of construction contracts, highway maintenance activities and national design standards is desirable. You will be able to work under pressure, and be an effective team member, helping to innovate and motivate throughout the team and service.
Experience in Winter Maintenance is desirable, as this role will support Winter Maintenance activities to given timescales, costs and specifications, but full training and support will be given.
