About this opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join Westmorland and Furness Council as an Environmental Health Officer within our Public Protection Service, focusing on Environmental Protection. In this role, you will help us to keep our communities safe through undertaking a wide range of regulatory activities including nuisance work, permitting, air quality, contaminated land, private water supplies, and rural drainage. You’ll be joining a dedicated and experienced team where you will be managing your own caseload of proactive and reactive inspections, complaint investigations, and service requests. Being an Environmental Health Officer at Westmorland and Furness Council is both varied and challenging; no two days are the same.

Who we are looking for…

We are looking for qualified Environmental Health Practitioners who hold a diploma, BSc, or MSc in Environmental Health and are EHRB registered or equivalent. In addition, candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to negotiate and influence effectively at all levels. The role also requires the ability to work independently while maintaining a customer-focused approach to service delivery.

As part of this role, there is a requirement for regular travel, and so the postholder must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle to use for work/able to independently travel around the Westmorland and Furness area.
