An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cumberland Council’s Housing Options and Homelessness Service as a Homeless Officer within the Carlisle locality. This is an exciting time to join the service as we continue to develop and transform homelessness services across Cumberland, with a strong focus on prevention, partnership working and improving outcomes for residents. We are looking for motivated, resilient and customer-focused individuals who are passionate about preventing homelessness and supporting vulnerable households.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing housing advice and homelessness casework in line with homelessness legislation and statutory duties
  • Managing homelessness applications and assessments
  • Developing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans
  • Supporting customers to access accommodation and sustain housing
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies including supported housing providers, health services and voluntary organisations
  • Supporting households with complex needs and safeguarding concerns
  • Contributing to the Council’s wider homelessness prevention and temporary accommodation priorities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of working within housing, homelessness, support services or a related field
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage a busy and demanding caseload
  • Compassionate and professional approach when working with vulnerable customers
  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing practice (desirable)
