About this opportunity

We are looking to appoint a Building Assistant, a highly motivated individual with knowledge of Manual Handling, Health & Safety, and hygiene regulations. The role requires attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to apply new skills.

You will provide portering, janitorial support, and general assistance to building users and visitors. Responsibilities include maintaining staff areas (toilets, kitchens, breakout areas, car parks, bin storage), logging compliance checks, testing fire alarm systems, and other related tasks.

The role also involves supporting the wider facilities team across the county, working with managers, service users, and stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations. Additionally, you will provide security support, ensuring premises are opened, closed, and secure at all times. Training will be provided as needed. This is a varied role with no two days the same.

Who we are looking for

We seek a proactive, reliable individual with relevant experience in FM or transferable skills from similar roles. A \’can-do\’ attitude and flexibility are essential to ensure work completion and prompt problem resolution.

This role requires travel throughout Westmorland & Furness Council\’s area. A full driving license is necessary, and experience driving a transit-sized van with a tail lift is advantageous but can be trained.
