We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead our operational delivery, drive organisational efficiency, and support our long-term growth on a fixed term contract. Reporting to the Council and working closely with the board of directors, staff, and volunteers, the COO will play a pivotal role in shaping the CA’s future, ensuring it remains a vibrant and essential hub for the cruising community. This is a front line role in the Association, and is the primary point of contact with volunteers and members.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of the organisation’s strategy and business plan
- Support governance through reporting, KPIs and board engagement
- Oversee budgeting, financial management and cost control
- Ensure compliance across HR, health & safety, data protection and legal requirements
- Manage facilities, contractors and operational service delivery
- Lead, develop and performance-manage the staff team
- Oversee recruitment, workforce planning and succession planning
- Build strong relationships with volunteers, members and external stakeholders
- Drive membership growth, engagement and experience improvements
- Oversee events, communications and marketing activity
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation when required
Person Specification
- Proven experience in senior operational leadership, ideally within a membership or not-for-profit organisation.
- Ability to prioritise and differentiate matters of strategic importance.
- Strong strategic, financial, and people management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with a collaborative leadership style.
- Understanding of or interest in recreational boating and the marine sector is highly desirable.
Location: Limehouse Basin, London (with potential flexible working options after an initial period)
Salary: In the region of £65k per annum, but based on experience
Contract: FTC Full time, up to 12 months
Working Hours: weekdays, with occasional presence at evening and weekend days for events (time is taken off in lieu).
