Join The Crown Estate team at the Windsor Farm Shop as a Retail and Deli Manager! The Crown Estate is a significant national landowner with a diverse portfolio including urban centres, rural holdings, and the seabed around England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Established in 1760, it operates independently and commercially to enhance the value of its portfolio for the nation. Windsor Great Park, part of The Crown Estate, covers approximately 6,400 hectares (15,800 acres) and features forests, grasslands, lakes, and gardens. It is an ancient Royal landscape with over a millennium of history, including monuments, rare wildlife, and National Collections of plants and Champion Trees. The estate is committed to environmental sustainability and rural conservation.
This role involves managing daily operations and leading the development of our retail and deli offerings to reach their full potential, aligned with our vision and objectives. You will be responsible for delivering business targets and ensuring exceptional customer service.
Main Accountabilities:- Audit compliance with legal requirements such as HACCP, Sale of Alcohol, Trading Standards, Health and Safety, and Security, and address issues proactively.
- Develop and maintain risk assessments; ensure staff awareness and compliance.
- Contribute to the retail development strategy for food, drink, gifts, plants, and delicatessen.
- Review budgets weekly, monitor performance, and implement actions.
- Optimize product margins, benchmark performance, and monitor PowerBI reports.
- Manage stock performance, adjust product lines, and optimize staff rotas based on variances.
- Identify margin improvements and develop seasonal product themes aligned with the estate’s vision.
- Enhance visual merchandising to boost sales, ensure stock management is effective, and minimize wastage and loss.
- Lead the team to deliver high productivity, quality, and customer service, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
- Act as Duty Manager and Fire Marshal, and handle site opening/closing responsibilities.
- Manage team performance, conduct inductions, and contribute to business planning and budgeting.
- Build strong supplier relationships, negotiate prices, and uphold ethical purchasing.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and legislation to identify opportunities.
- Experience in premium food retail, with a proven track record of results.
- Experience in delicatessen operations is desirable.
- Financial management and budget control skills.
- Ability to develop operational policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Motivational leadership and organizational skills.
- Commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Personal Licence Holder (training provided), Food Hygiene Level 2 (training provided), HACCP Level 3 (training provided), Fire Marshal trained.
