The Marine Nature Strategy Senior Manager will lead the ongoing development, integration, and governance of The Crown Estate’s Marine Nature Strategy, ensuring it is embedded across the Marine Strategic Business Unit and aligned with the Enterprise Nature Strategy. This role will focus on supporting the existing strategic direction, building the frameworks and partnerships necessary to strengthen TCE’s ability to deliver against our nature ambition in the marine space, ensuring the approach is fully integrated into business planning, investment and risk. The postholder will act as the principal architect and champion for marine nature strategy, enabling delivery teams to succeed and ensuring The Crown Estate remains at the forefront of nature-positive marine management.

Main accountabilities:

  • Leadership & Integration
    • Translate the vision into strategic direction for marine nature recovery, ensuring alignment with the Enterprise Nature Strategy and priorities.
    • Act as the central point of entry for the Enterprise Nature team into the marine SBU.
    • Lead the integration of marine nature objectives into enterprise-wide business planning, investment decisions, and risk frameworks.
    • Develop and maintain the Marine Nature Strategy’s governance, reporting, and assurance processes.
    • Ensure nature strategy is embedded in the Marine Delivery Routemap and all relevant policies and frameworks.
  • Cross-Enterprise Collaboration
    • Work closely with senior leaders across Marine SBU to ensure marine nature ambitions are reflected in all relevant business areas (e.g., leasing, investment, operations).
    • Facilitate cross-team collaboration, ensuring delivery teams have the strategic clarity, evidence, and frameworks needed to succeed.
    • Champion the marine nature agenda at senior level, providing thought leadership and strategic advice.
  • External Influence & Innovation
    • Represent The Crown Estate in high-level external forums, shaping national and sectoral policy on marine nature recovery.
    • Build strategic partnerships with government, regulators, industry, and NGOs to unlock new opportunities for nature-positive marine management.
    • Identify and promote innovative approaches, finance models, and technologies that can accelerate marine nature recovery at scale, for delivery across the relevant sector teams.
  • Evidence, Assurance & Reporting
    • Oversee the development of robust evidence bases, natural capital accounts, and impact measurement frameworks for marine nature.
    • Ensure transparent reporting and assurance to the Board and stakeholders on progress, risks, and opportunities.
    • Lead horizon scanning and risk assessment for emerging issues and opportunities in marine nature strategy. Work with the P&T team on supported consents, and with SNCBs to overcome hurdles with licensing.

Most important skills based requirements:

  • Significant experience in marine strategy, policy, or environmental governance at a senior level.
  • Proven ability to lead strategy development and integration in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong understanding of UK marine policy, natural capital, and nature recovery frameworks.
  • Experience influencing at Board/Executive level and representing organisations in high-profile external settings.
  • Experience in strategic communications and thought leadership.
  • Familiarity with innovative finance and investment models for nature recovery.
  • Knowledge of The Crown Estate’s marine and enterprise strategies.
