Purpose of Role: The Client Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial management of income and expenditure, assisting in the production of client reports, and ensuring accurate financial record-keeping. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the financial integrity of client accounts and facilitating effective communication within the client accounting team.
Context of Opportunity / Main Accountabilities:
- Income Management: Support the raising of service charges and rental income, including turnover calculations and rent deposit maintenance. Manage accounting for other income (insurance, interest on late payments) and maintain reconciliations. Produce completion statements for property sales and lease terminations. Process tenant drawdowns/refunds as instructed by surveyors.
- Expenditure Management: Liaise with site staff to ensure service charge expenditure accuracy and report variances. Maintain accounting records for expenditure recoverable from tenants.
- Reporting: Assist with regular client reports and ad hoc reporting to surveyors and solicitors. Support statutory and regulatory reporting to HMRC and RICS.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with the wider client accounting team to manage workload effectively. Build strong working relationships and attend regular meetings to resolve issues.
Most Important Skills-Based Requirements:
- Knowledge or experience of basic accounting/bookkeeping.
- Minimum GCSE level education (Maths and English at grade C or above).
- Good computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and prioritize effectively.
- Organised with attention to detail and able to meet tight deadlines.
