In this role, you will play a leading part in providing specialist technical expertise across a wide range of housing, masterplanning, and mixed-use projects throughout the UK. You will work closely with Project Leaders, studio teams, and project partners to embed technical excellence from project inception through to delivery, with a particular focus on Building Regulations and Fire Safety.

This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the practice’s technical design capability by leading structured reviews, offering early-stage guidance, and mentoring teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and compliant. Alongside one of the best benefits packages in the industry, the practice offers hybrid working and a strong emphasis on work/life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the practice’s technical excellence by establishing standards, guiding design decisions for buildability and performance, conducting structured design reviews, and collaborating with the central technical and design team.
  • Provide leadership on UK Building Regulation compliance and building safety by advising project teams on relevant legislation, standards, and guidance, and ensuring processes align with higher-risk building requirements.
  • Support project delivery by establishing and implementing technical strategies, reviewing construction details and specifications, overseeing testing and site quality, and addressing RFIs across all RIBA stages.
  • Ensure projects are implemented with best-practice BIM standards by working closely with the BIM Manager and design team to ensure models and documentation are managed correctly.
  • Lead the practice’s knowledge and training initiatives by delivering CPD programmes, offering mentoring, driving continuous improvement, and reporting on technical risk and compliance.
  • Enhance the practice’s external profile and support business development by contributing to bids, presenting to clients, engaging in industry activities, and maintaining strong professional relationships.

Key Skills / Requirements

  • ARB-registered Architect or Chartered Architectural Technologist.
  • 7–10 years’ experience in technical design, detailing, specification, and construction-stage work.
  • Exposure to, and awareness of, Revit and BIM is essential.
  • Strong experience in UK housing and/or mixed-use projects across RIBA stages 3–6.
  • Proven track record of leading technical delivery across multiple projects and teams.
  • Experience with Higher-Risk Buildings, CDM, and UK Building Regulations is required.
  • Experience in MMC and modular construction is highly beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge of fire-stopping, cavity barriers, and façade system compliance is advantageous.
