About The Role: The Crowd are partnered with a leading, mid-sized international architecture practice that are looking for a commercial and strategically minded Head of Finance to join them at advisory level. The role will work closely with the board and senior leadership team to manage the finance health of the business, provide key commercial and strategic advice and oversee project financials. This is a varied and hands-on role that will also be highly involved in the wider business operational functions of the business, in addition to working closely with the design teams, therefore strong project knowledge and general business acumen is a must. The ideal person will be an accomplished all-rounder from the architecture/built environment sector and will have the confidence and knowledge to challenge the status quo. You will oversee a small team and will be required to liaise with external stakeholders therefore excellent communication and people skills are required. This role could be a good opportunity for someone who is already at Head of Finance level and is wanting to be number 1, or someone looking to take a step up to senior leadership and support at board level. Our client works out of a beautiful airy office in a bustling part of town and offers benefits such as hybrid working, private health, enhanced annual leave and career progression to director level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the overall financial health of the business – leading on strategic planning
  • Provide financial reporting and financial insights to the board on a monthly basis
  • Produce annual budgets, forecasting and planning
  • Efficiently manage P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, management accounts, WIP, debtors etc
  • Work closely with the design team to provide financial input into projects, along with commercial and strategic guidance
  • Manage the year end and audit process
  • Ensure compliance across all financial and commercial aspects of the business
  • Provide sound financial advice and overview to the board
  • Advise on company strategies and risk mitigation
  • Review and streamline financial processes where necessary
  • Oversee a small finance/ops team
  • Act as a go-to person for the wider team to provide financial and commercial advice where needed

Key Skills:

  • Relevant financial qualifications – QBE will be considered with previous demonstrable experience
  • Strategic and commercially-minded with experience in an advisory position
  • A confident decision maker – not afraid to challenge the status quo
  • Strong budgeting and forecasting skills
  • Strong project knowledge and understanding
  • A team player who can mentor and lead a team effectively
  • Technically strong and with a hands-on approach
  • Able to translate financial jargon into layman’s terms for the benefit of non-financial people
