The Cricketers on the Green is looking for an experienced, energetic and guest-focused Assistant General Manager to join our management team. Set in a beautiful village location, The Cricketers on the Green is a busy, food-led pub known for warm hospitality, quality food and drink, events and a strong connection with the local community. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious hospitality manager who enjoys leading from the front, supporting a team and helping to drive all areas of the business.
The Role
As Assistant General Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the pub. You will take responsibility for delivering excellent guest experiences, maintaining high operational standards and ensuring the team is motivated, informed and prepared for every service. This is a hands-on role that will involve leading busy services, supporting team development, managing events and helping to improve sales, standards and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager with the daily operation of the business.
- Lead shifts and ensure every service runs smoothly and professionally.
- Deliver warm, attentive and memorable guest experiences.
- Train, coach and motivate the front-of-house team.
- Conduct daily team briefings and ensure clear communication across departments.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, presentation and organisation.
- Handle guest feedback and resolve issues confidently and professionally.
- Support rota planning, labour control and team scheduling.
- Monitor sales, promotions, average spend and other key performance indicators.
- Assist with stock control, ordering, cash handling and daily financial procedures.
- Support private events, weddings, parties and seasonal activations.
- Ensure licensing, health and safety and company procedures are followed.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to deliver efficient and consistent service.
- Deputise for the General Manager when required.
- Help create a positive, accountable and supportive working environment.
About You
You will already have experience as an Assistant General Manager, Deputy Manager, Senior Duty Manager or Restaurant Manager within a quality pub, restaurant, hotel or similar hospitality business. You will be:
- A confident and visible leader who enjoys working alongside the team.
- Passionate about hospitality and delivering excellent guest service.
- Organised, reliable and calm under pressure.
- Commercially aware, with an understanding of sales, labour and cost control.
- Comfortable managing busy services, events and large bookings.
- Experienced in training and developing hospitality teams.
- Confident handling guest complaints and operational challenges.
- Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Keen to develop your career within a growing independent pub company.
