The position of the instructional assistant is designed to serve individual and groups of students in the classroom and throughout the building site.

Requirements
- B.A./B.S. degree preferred, State of Illinois paraprofessional or substitute license required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver direct instructional and intervention support as outlined in students' IEPs under the guidance of the teacher or service provider.
- Provide small group and one-on-one academic support, reinforcing learning while the teacher or service provider works with other students.
- Adapt instructional materials and methods as needed to meet diverse student needs.
- Assist with student assessments, including supporting students who require accommodations or alternative testing methods.
- Collect data and maintain accurate records on student progress toward IEP goals, behavioral interventions, and academic performance, as directed by the teacher or service provider.
- Foster a positive and trauma-informed inclusive learning environment in all school settings.
- Implement positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies consistent with the teacher/service provider’s approach.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to promote student success.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information.
- Contribute to the Cove community by participating in school events and supporting a culture of inclusivity.
- Supervise students during classes such as gym, music, library, and art, ensuring engagement and safety while facilitating assigned activities.
- Supervise and support students during recess and lunch by promoting positive social interactions, ensuring safety, and reinforcing behavioral expectations.
- Assist in conflict resolution, and provide movement and sensory breaks as needed to support student regulation and engagement.
About Us
The Cove School is a non-public therapeutic day school for students with learning disabilities located in Northbrook, IL. Cove students come from 60 nearby different public schools and families can also choose to fund tuition privately. Classes are kept small. Teaching is flexible and varies according to the individual student’s learning style. A team of onsite specialists work collaboratively to provide students intensive, integrated related services.
