Build your career. Deliver projects that matter.

Are you looking to take the next step in your property, construction or project management career?

At Cherwell District Council, we're looking for a motivated Buildings and Project Officer to help deliver a diverse range of property projects across our estate. From building improvements and repairs to capital projects and decarbonisation initiatives, you'll play a key role in shaping the buildings and spaces that support our communities every day.

The Job:

This is an exciting development role offering hands-on experience across project management, building surveying and property delivery.

You'll manage your own portfolio of repair, maintenance and improvement projects while supporting the delivery of larger capital schemes alongside experienced colleagues. No two days are the same, and you'll gain exposure to every stage of the project lifecycle.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Delivering minor capital projects, planned maintenance works and property improvements.
  • Managing project budgets, programmes, risks and performance.
  • Procuring and managing contractors, consultants and professional advisers.
  • Working with stakeholders across the Council to develop and deliver projects.
  • Supporting the delivery of larger capital projects across the Council's estate.
  • Helping to improve and decarbonise our buildings as we work towards our carbon reduction ambitions.

The Person:

You may already be working in building surveying, construction, project management or property management and be looking for the opportunity to broaden your experience and take on greater responsibility.

We'll be looking for someone who has:

  • A degree in a property, construction, engineering or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience delivering property, maintenance or construction-related projects.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
  • A proactive attitude, good problem-solving skills and a desire to learn and develop.

Why Join Us?

This is more than just a project delivery role. It's an opportunity to build a long-term career in local government property services.

At Cherwell you will:

Manage your own projects from day one.

  • Gain experience across capital projects, repairs, maintenance and asset improvement programmes.
  • Work alongside experienced property and project professionals.
  • Receive support with professional development, training and qualifications.
  • Develop the experience needed to progress into more senior property and project management roles.
