The Role

As Lighthouse Manager, you will be responsible for the condition, maintenance, and performance of the lighthouse estate, leading a highly skilled team to deliver safe, efficient, and forward‑looking engineering operations. Working closely with the Head of Engineering & Operations and senior stakeholders across the service, you will:

  • Shape maintenance strategy by developing and evolving asset management plans, driving improvements in condition‑based maintenance and long‑term reliability
  • Lead and inspire a disparate technical workforce, building capability, supporting development, and fostering a high‑performance culture
  • Influence future investment and priorities through data‑led insight, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Deliver complex operational and project activity, ensuring high standards of engineering quality, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Respond to operational challenges, including managing critical asset failures and emergencies across the estate
  • Drive value and efficiency, optimising resources, managing budgets, and supporting commercial activity where appropriate

What we're looking for

We are seeking a confident and experienced engineering leader who can combine technical expertise with strategic thinking. You will bring:

  • Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards
  • A proactive, forward‑looking approach to continuous improvement and innovation
  • A track record of leading technical teams and delivering high‑quality engineering outcomes
  • Strong experience in asset management and maintenance systems, ideally within a complex operational environment
  • Commercial awareness, including budgetary control and contract management
  • Experience in project delivery and operational planning

Qualifications

  • Degree‑level qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • A recognised project management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, Agile, MSP)
