Our people are central to our reputation as a leading maritime organisation, as is our commitment as an employer to developing the skills, capabilities and potential of our workforce.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a technical team responsible for managing the ongoing maintenance of an estate of 21 historic lighthouses and their associated cottages and outbuildings, travelling to many coastal areas and offshore locations in support of the maritime Aids to Navigation. The work involves contractor selection and management, as well as being responsible for minor projects such as changing doors and small repair works.
The working environments can vary from land-based installations to those that are offshore, many requiring access over rough ground. Given the location of the stations, you will be spending significant time away from home, working and living in close proximity to your work colleagues. This, coupled with the physical nature of the duties involved, calls for appropriate levels of health and fitness. Modes of transport to access the installations can include road transport, boat, and helicopter.
Skills and Experience:
- A good level of experience in a civil/building maintenance role.
- An appropriate level of practical training in a building-related trade enabling a good understanding of construction techniques and practices.
- A thorough working knowledge of the HSE requirements as relating to the construction and building industries.
- An understanding of building inspections/surveys leading to specification and cost estimation.
Qualifications:
- A level 3 qualification in building construction/maintenance or related technical discipline.
- Full Driving Licence.
