This is a hybrid role with an expectation of at least one day a week in the office (9am to 5pm) in central Bristol (near Temple Meads station) and up to two days a week remote working. Client travel may be needed as business needs dictate.

At The Content Emporium we offer a high level plug-in content marketing support to comprehensively fill the gaps in the skills and resources that large brands have in-house. With a team of 72 strategic, creative experts, we offer a vast suite of services, including strategy, design, copywriting, social content creation, photography, community management, motion graphics and much more.
Why we are hiring
We currently serve a diverse client base, from FTSE 100 property giant Landsec to ambitious smaller businesses. We’ve retained our largest client, Landsec, for 16 years and we now run the digital marketing for 17 of their shopping centres including Bluewater, St David’s Cardiff and Gunwharf Quays. We have ambitious plans for 2026 and we need a Head of Social to support the strategy behind, and delivery of, client work on social media while our Director of Social is on Maternity Leave.
The role
The Head of Social will lead the strategic and creative delivery of social media work across The Content Emporium during a 12-month maternity cover period. This role is responsible for ensuring excellence across all client‑facing social output, driving creativity, innovation, and supporting the smooth running of the social department day‑to‑day.
Responsibilities to include (but not limited to):
- Leadership of social media output across the agency
- Provide strategic oversight and creative direction for all social media work delivered by The Content Emporium, ensuring consistently high standards across all accounts.
- Lead the development of social‑first strategies aligned to client objectives, brand positioning, and platform best practice.
- Translate insights from client calls, performance data, planning sessions, and cultural trends into actionable content strategies and ideas with assistance from the wider team.
- Ensure social work meets client expectations, internal quality standards, and agreed SLAs.
- Champion innovative thinking and platform‑native creativity across the team.
Social strategy, planning & delivery excellence:
- Own the planning and oversight of social content calendars across key accounts.
- Oversee and have oversight of the creation of clear briefs and strategic guidance to content creators, editors, designers, and community managers.
- Support account teams in ensuring social output is aligned with broader campaign and marketing objectives.
- Monitor performance trends and recommend optimisation opportunities in collaboration with Client Success and Account teams.
Driving innovation and staying ahead of social trends:
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of platform developments, algorithms, creator trends, and cultural moments.
- Bring proactive recommendations to clients and internal teams to keep work fresh, relevant, and effective.
- Encourage experimentation and innovation across formats, storytelling, and engagement strategies.
- Support the agency’s reputation for producing industry‑leading social content.
Ownership of The Content Emporium’s social presence:
- Lead the strategic direction and content planning for TCE’s own social channels during the contract period.
- Ensure the agency’s social presence reflects its values, proposition, and creative capabilities.
- Work with internal stakeholders to support new business visibility, employer brand, and industry recognition.
Team leadership & line management:
- Line manage senior members of the social and community management teams, ensuring strong day‑to‑day leadership and delivery.
- Conduct regular 1-1s, performance check‑ins, and development support for direct reports (currently six).
- Foster a collaborative, supportive environment that empowers teams to produce exceptional work.
- Work closely with the Account Director and Managing Content Editors to maintain team capability and resourcing.
Cross‑team collaboration:
- Partner with design, photography, content editing, SEO, and client service teams to ensure integrated and cohesive delivery.
- Contribute to regular cross‑department meetings to ensure alignment, clarity, and workflow efficiency.
- Ensure all contributors understand strategic direction, timelines, and client expectations.
Processes, workflow & quality standards:
- Oversee and uphold social workflows and systems to ensure efficient delivery across accounts.
- Assign, prioritise, and monitor workstreams within the social team to maintain quality and timeliness.
- Use project management tools (currently Synergist) to track progress, resource needs, and delivery status.
- Review content output and performance regularly to identify what’s working and where improvements can be made.
Continuity of delivery during absences:
- Ensure continuity of social delivery during periods of team absence by delegating effectively or arranging freelance support where needed.
- Maintain clear communication with clients and internal teams to ensure stability across accounts.
- Provide updates to senior stakeholders on delivery risks or resourcing challenges as appropriate.
What success looks like in this role:
- Social delivery continues seamlessly during maternity cover, with client satisfaction and retention maintained or improved.
- The social team feels well‑led, supported, and clear on priorities during a busy growth period.
- Social output remains innovative, platform‑leading, and commercially effective across key accounts.
Benefits:
This is a fixed term full time role with a salary of £42,000 to £46,000 per annum. Hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday as standard, but a typical week will often include some work outside these hours. All full time employees get 25 days paid holiday per year in addition to all bank holidays. Employees are auto‑enrolled into our pension scheme and benefit from health insurance.
