Messaging is a business-critical system at Spotify. It sits between many message senders and a shared pool of users across several channels (e.g. in-app, push, email, and emerging channels), delivering more than 70 billion impressions per year. The Messaging team operates within the Freemium Funnel Area, where product, engineering, design, insights, and marketing collaborate to shape how users engage with Spotify across monetization experiences. We are responsible for audience reach, messaging governance, campaign delivery, and the platforms that enable Spotify teams to communicate with users at scale — reliably, responsibly, and effectively.

We have ambitious plans to evolve Messaging from a delivery layer into an intelligent, governed platform that reasons about what to send, to whom, and when — balancing user experience with business outcomes. We are looking for a Group Product Manager to help lead this transformation.

What You'll Do

  • Set the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Messaging capabilities spanning audience reach, governance, campaign automation, and emerging engagement surfaces.
  • Lead and support a group of Product Managers building scalable platform solutions that evolve Messaging from operator-configured execution into intelligent, value-informed decisioning.
  • Drive the governance layer for Spotify's messaging ecosystem by defining how competing business objectives — including conversion, engagement, retention, and upsell — are balanced across channels and user segments.
  • Lead the development of message classification systems, cross-domain signal integration, and attribution frameworks that enable continuous learning and optimization.
  • Build and protect audience reach through push notification recovery, opt-in optimization, and expansion into new off-platform channels such as WhatsApp.
  • Establish observability, monitoring, and alerting capabilities that make messaging performance visible to operators, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, and insights teams to deliver high-impact platform capabilities with speed and quality.
  • Collaborate with Growth, R&D, Content, and Marketing stakeholders to align priorities, governance principles, escalation paths, and messaging best practices.
  • Champion platform thinking across teams by promoting reusable capabilities, enforcing standards, and reducing structural limitations tied to manual configuration.
  • Inspire teams with a clear product vision while staying close enough to execution to remove blockers and drive meaningful outcomes.

Who You Are

  • You have experience building or leading messaging products at consumer scale, ideally in environments where multiple business teams compete for shared user attention.
  • You have led product strategy end-to-end, from defining vision through execution and measurable business impact.
  • You are experienced navigating ambiguity and connecting governance, infrastructure, and user experience initiatives into a clear strategic direction.
  • You know how to use experimentation, user research, attribution modeling, and market insights to inform product decisions.
  • You have experience building platform products that support both internal operators and external user experiences.
  • You understand the balance between business optimization and protecting user experience, and can design systems that support both.
  • You collaborate effectively across product, engineering, design, insights, legal, and executive stakeholders.
  • You communicate clearly and can adapt your storytelling to audiences ranging from engineers to senior leadership.
  • You support and grow high-performing Product Managers by creating clarity, momentum, and accountability.
  • You are comfortable diving into details when needed to unblock teams and accelerate execution.
  • You bring a thoughtful perspective on how AI can improve workflows, product thinking, and decision-making responsibly.
  • You care deeply about building durable, long-term value over short-term optimization.

Where You'll Be

This role is based in London, UK or Stockholm, Sweden. We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be opportunities for in-person collaboration, while still allowing flexibility to work from home. This team operates within the EST and GMT time zones for collaboration.
