McGinley are looking for a Working Streetworks Ganger with experience in excavation, minor drainage, and groundwork to join our team. The ideal candidate will be competent in laying granular Type 1 sub-base, installing underground traffic signal ducting and sockets, and working safely around underground utilities. This is a hands-on role, requiring attention to detail, adherence to health and safety standards, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out excavation work, ensuring safe digging practices around live underground utilities.
- Organise and control a gang of site operatives undertaking maintenance and construction works.
- Install minor drainage systems, including pipes and connections.
- Lay and compact granular Type 1 sub-base to required specifications.
- Install underground traffic signal ducting and sockets, following site drawings and plans.
- Assist with groundworks and reinstatement, ensuring a high standard of finish.
- Work safely and efficiently, always complying with health and safety regulations.
- Operate small plant and hand tools effectively.
- Communicate with supervisors and engineers to ensure work is carried out correctly and on schedule.
Requirements
- NRSWA accredited operative.
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience of construction schemes.
- Have roadworks civil engineering or construction industry experience.
- Hold a formal qualification in a skilled construction related trade such as bricklaying, steel fixing, carpentry, masonry etc.
- Knowledge of working around underground utilities and safe digging practices.
- Experience installing traffic signal ducting and sockets (preferred).
- Ability to read and follow site drawings and specifications.
- A strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
