There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Head Office located in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking to recruit an experienced HR Advisor to join the Group HR team.
The Role
Bellway’s HR team is a centralised Head Office based team providing HR advice and support to the Group Head Office and Divisions. The role of HR Advisor reports to the Group HR Manager and provides comprehensive and professional HR advice and support, which includes dealing with day to day and complex HR matters, supporting and advising managers and working on projects or initiatives.
Principal Accountabilities Of The HR Advisor Role Include:
- Provide business-focussed HR advice and support to the Group Head Office and Divisions on all HR policies and procedures, employment issues and legislation primarily over the phone and via Microsoft Teams.
- Adopt a coaching and mentoring approach to develop managers' confidence and competence to manage HR cases and make good people decisions.
- Support and advise managers on full case management from beginning to end on a range of HR matters including disciplinary, grievances, absence management, flexible working, reorganisation and capability/performance management.
- Take the lead and/or support HR projects or initiatives as required.
- Support the Group HR team and/or Divisions with the recruitment and selection of apprentices and graduates.
- Produce HR reports and carry out data analysis as required.
- Support the Group HR Manager/Head of HR to continually look for improvement and drive positive change within the HR team.
- Mentor and support other team members to develop their knowledge and experience of HR.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience of working as a generalist HR Advisor with wide-ranging experience of dealing with employee relations matters.
- Experience of multi-site HR and the ability to deal with HR matters remotely.
- Demonstrate a thorough and comprehensive understanding of current and forthcoming HR legislation.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment is desirable.
Qualifications And Training:
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C (or equivalent) or above.
- CIPD qualified or working towards this.
Skills and Aptitude:
- Demonstrates a professional and business-focussed approach to HR.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build robust working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent administration and organisation skills.
- Confident with dealing with HR issues by phone or virtually.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- A self-starter, who is able to demonstrate high levels of initiative and motivation, but also work closely with colleagues.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems.

The Role and Working Conditions:
- Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked.
- Office based role, with some ad-hoc travel and overnight stays to the various Divisions across the UK.
