Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester, UK – North West.

Day Rate: £400–£500 per day.

Role Description

Working with a specialist civil engineering subcontractor focused on Transmission & Distribution infrastructure delivery, providing heavy civil packages across cable systems, substations, and wider grid reinforcement projects throughout the UK. The role involves full responsibility for site-based delivery of civil works, working closely with the principal contractor and wider project team to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality execution, supporting continued growth.

Day‑to‑Day Duties (illustrative)

  • Managing day‑to‑day site operations across heavy civils packages
  • Overseeing earthworks, ducting, drainage, foundations and reinforced concrete works
  • Supervising subcontractors and direct labour on site
  • Ensuring works are delivered in line with programme, quality and safety standards
  • Coordinating with project managers, engineers and client representatives
  • Managing permits, RAMS and site documentation
  • Driving HSEQ performance and ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Supporting progress reporting and resolving on‑site issues

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience as a Site Manager within heavy civil engineering
  • Essential experience delivering heavy civil works within power/energy projects (T&D, substations, cable routes or similar)
  • Strong understanding of earthworks, duct installation, drainage, and concrete structures
  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid certification required
  • Strong knowledge of HSEQ requirements within live construction environments
  • Ability to drive programme and coordinate multiple workstreams on site
