About the Role: To work collaboratively with the Head of Humanities to deliver high-quality teaching of History and Politics at Downsend School. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive ethos and learning environment within the History and Politics departments, ensuring high standards of teaching across KS3 to KS5. The post holder will support the department by participating in a range of tasks, contribute to a collaborative team culture, and develop teaching in line with the school's policies and schemes of work. The enrichment programme will include historical visits and trips, and politics-related activities such as Model United Nations and debating. This is a permanent, full-time role with an anticipated start date in September 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching of History and Politics at KS3 to KS5.
  • Contribute to the department ethos, atmosphere, and learning environment.
  • Participate in a range of tasks to support the History and Politics departments.
  • Coordinate or contribute to History and Politics enrichment programmes, including visits, trips, Model United Nations, and debates.
  • Carry out other duties as reasonably assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications:

  • Dynamic and committed practitioner with experience teaching History and Politics at GCSE and A Level.
  • Honours degree in History, Politics, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to improve attainment, progress, and behaviour; strong communication skills (oral and written) and ICT proficiency.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills; able to work under pressure while maintaining professional standards.
