Join a market‑leading food packaging and automation machinery manufacturer as a Lead Design Engineer and become a key part of a growing design team working on highly technical special purpose machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of special purpose machinery projects.
  • Design machinery from inception through to production and delivery.
  • Manage 2–3 projects simultaneously while working closely with production and procurement teams on‑site.
  • Produce detailed mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
  • Support automation, robotic, pneumatic, and electro‑mechanical machinery projects.
  • Involve in costing and manufacturing considerations.
  • Maintain a hybrid split role between on‑site and remote work.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with special purpose machinery.
  • Strong mechanical engineering understanding, including pneumatics, hydraulics, automation, robotics, conveyors, etc.
  • Basic electrical understanding, including single‑phase systems.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and sheet metal design.
  • Background within food or packaging machinery – desirable.
  • SolidWorks experience – desirable.
  • Ability to commute to the Birmingham site.
