We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Site Manager to join a well-established contractor based in Gateshead, covering projects across the North East. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong painting and decorating background who is looking to step into a long-term role with progression into a permanent Contracts Manager position. The successful candidate will initially shadow the current Contracts Manager for a period of time, gaining full support and handover before moving into the permanent role.

The Role

  • Overseeing multiple live sites at one time across a mix of social housing and commercial projects, including schools, universities and other public/commercial buildings.
  • Managing site teams, instructing painters, ensuring works are completed to a high standard, maintaining health and safety compliance and liaising directly with clients.

This is a client-facing role, so strong communication skills and previous experience dealing with clients, subcontractors and internal teams is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing multiple painting and decorating projects across the North East.
  • Overseeing site teams and instructing painters on day-to-day works.
  • Completing quality checks and ensuring standards are maintained.
  • Managing health and safety on site.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors and internal teams.
  • Supporting programme delivery across social housing and commercial projects.
  • Attending site meetings and providing updates where required.
  • Ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to specification.
  • Pricing works where required, ideally with previous experience in this area.

About You

The successful candidate will have a proven background in painting and decorating, ideally with experience managing multiple sites or projects. You will be confident overseeing site teams, managing quality and safety, and dealing directly with clients. This role would suit an experienced Senior Site Manager, Contracts Manager, Painting Supervisor or Site Manager looking for a long-term opportunity with progression.

Requirements

  • Strong painting and decorating background is essential.
  • Experience managing multiple sites or projects.
  • Social housing and/or commercial project experience desirable.
  • Confident client-facing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards and health and safety.
  • Ability to instruct and manage painting teams.
  • Ideally able to price works.
  • CSCS card required.
  • SMSTS desirable.
  • NVQ Level 4 or above in Management would be beneficial.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
