I'm currently working with a well‑established and growing civil and environmental engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint an experienced Flood Modeller to join its expanding team in Hemel Hempstead. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong professional with experience in flood risk and drainage modelling to work on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, infrastructure and environmental projects across the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering flood risk assessments, hydraulic modelling studies and drainage strategies, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake flood risk assessments and hydraulic modelling studies.
- Develop and review drainage strategies and sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS).
- Build, run and analyse hydraulic and hydrological models using industry‑standard software.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations and supporting documentation for planning and design submissions.
- Liaise with clients, local authorities, the Environment Agency and other stakeholders.
- Support project delivery from initial feasibility through to detailed design stages.
- Contribute to mentoring junior team members and sharing technical expertise across the business.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in flood risk and drainage modelling within a consultancy environment.
- Strong working knowledge of software such as Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS, InfoWorks ICM or similar.
- Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), drainage strategies and surface water management studies.
- Understanding of UK flood risk policy, planning requirements and drainage design standards.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Desirable
- Chartered status, or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.
- Experience using GIS software and drainage design packages.
- Knowledge of FEH, ReFH2 and wider hydrological assessment methodologies.
