Associate Director
South East London
We are seeking an Associate Director for a well known Cost Management consultancy who specialise in Healthcare projects across the UK. The client requires someone from an electrical background, with a strong background in pre‑contract work and cost planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the pre‑contract cost management of major healthcare projects from feasibility through to contract award.
- Prepare and oversee detailed cost plans throughout all RIBA design stages.
- Produce elemental cost estimates and benchmarking using current market intelligence.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to clients to support informed investment decisions.
- Manage cost planning, value engineering and option appraisals without compromising project objectives.
- Review and challenge design proposals to ensure cost efficiency and commercial viability.
- Develop procurement strategies and advise on appropriate contract and tendering approaches.
- Lead the preparation of tender documentation, pricing schedules and bills of quantities where appropriate.
- Evaluate tender returns, prepare tender reports and negotiate with contractors.
- Manage project risk, contingency allowances and cost forecasting throughout the design process.
- Act as the primary commercial interface with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
- Provide specialist commercial advice relating to Electrical MEP systems within complex healthcare environments.
- Mentor and develop Cost Managers and Senior Cost Managers, promoting technical excellence across the team.
- Support business development activities, client relationship management and win‑winning opportunities.
- Contribute to resource planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives within the business.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or equivalent is preferred.
- Significant experience within a consultancy environment delivering major construction projects.
- Demonstrable expertise in pre‑contract cost management and cost planning.
- Extensive experience delivering healthcare projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of Electrical MEP systems and associated construction costs.
- Excellent understanding of procurement routes, tendering strategies and standard forms of contract.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage client relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to present commercial advice to senior stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and developing high‑performing commercial teams.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on acute hospitals, specialist healthcare facilities or complex clinical environments.
- Knowledge of HTM (Health Technical Memoranda) and healthcare design standards.
- Experience with NEC and JCT forms of contract.
- Familiarity with digital cost management tools and cost planning software.
- Experience supporting business development and framework appointments.
