This specialist civil/structural consultancy is an award-winning firm that focuses on assessing, maintaining, and extending the serviceable life of a wide range of damaged and deteriorating concrete structures. They are an Irish firm established over 20 years, with a growing London/M25 presence and workload.
The London team currently has one Associate and one engineer and is seeking another mid-level person to join their team. The role would suit someone with at least 2 years' experience, which could be with a contractor or consultant. You would be working alongside the Associate under supervision initially.
The work is specialist and involves:
- Forensic engineering and failure analysis
- Structural assessment
- Inspections and load testing
- Cathodic protection
- Structural health monitoring
- Expert witness work
- Materials testing and report writing
Structures could include bridges, tunnels, buildings, underground chambers, wharfs, jetties, pipelines, and car parks. The role will involve a mix of office work and site work. You must be a good communicator and be prepared to get your hands dirty on site, collect material samples, do surveying, go up on high platforms for multi-storey buildings, and go into tunnels and small spaces. You do need to be able to use a drill.
The role has a very broad scope, and common sense along with a good understanding of civil and structural works is essential. Some in situ materials testing is done, but the more technical aspects are sent off to a materials testing lab. The role is not a hands-on structural design role but will involve writing structural reports and offering solutions and recommendations. Ability to use AutoCAD is useful.
Driver essential. Willingness for occasional travel to Ireland would be useful.
In addition to basic salary, there is healthcare, paid overtime, pension, laptop, phone, company car or mileage paid.
Aldwych Consulting values diversity and promotes equality. We encourage and welcome applications from all sections of society and are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments and/or additional arrangements as required to support your application. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
