The Southern Counties division is recruiting an Assistant Site Manager to join the Construction team at Elmfield Green, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9DD.
Responsibilities- Support the Site Manager with day‑to‑day operations and provide clear direction to site staff.
- Assist with the management and implementation of health and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with Bellway Health and Safety Managers.
- Motivate, support and manage directly employed site staff, delivering toolbox talks, training and coaching.
- Maintain site presentation to the required standards.
- Support the Site Manager in delivering production requirements following technical and planning documentation.
- Ensure compliance with building regulations and warranty provider requirements (NHBC, LABC Services).
- Prepare accurate production/progress returns and forward to the Construction Manager or Director as requested.
- Assist with quality control procedures and inspections, rectifying defects promptly.
- Monitor and control production costs, approving payments to contractors and trades where appropriate.
- Maintain comprehensive site records, including reports, labour requirements, plant, materials, site inductions, and health and safety records.
- Ensure remedial work is completed before each NHBC key stage inspection.
- Collaborate with sales through regular build meetings to ensure smooth delivery.
- Conduct new‑home demonstration tours and other customer tours, addressing questions and resolving issues before legal completion.
- Provide excellent customer service in line with company guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as designated by the Site Manager, including deputising when required.
- Experience as an Assistant Site Manager with a high‑volume residential house builder.
- Effective team management experience.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of health and safety, building legislation and NHBC standards.
- GCSE Maths and English – Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
- Valid CSCS card at Site Manager level (or equivalent).
- Valid SMSTS certificate.
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- Construction Management – HNC Level 4, HND Level 5 or NVQ Level 6 (desirable).
- Valid Scaffold Appreciation certificate (desirable).
- Valid LOLER certificate (desirable).
- Strong communication, listening and presentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Methodical, conscientious, organised, and deliver high standards.
- Problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to manage and motivate a team, thrive under pressure, and delegate effectively.
- Proficient IT skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and adaptability to new systems.
