An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional and highly motivated Management Accountant to join the Finance team in CCHQ Leeds. This role will report directly to the Financial Controller. The main objective is to support the Financial Controller to reinforce strong financial controls and continually review and improve our systems of budgeting and reporting. Applicants should have relevant experience within a Finance team for a small to medium sized organisation and will be required to hit the ground running. This is a good opportunity for an experienced part qualified or newly qualified accountant looking for breadth of experience and a new and very exciting challenge.
Your responsibilities
- Supporting the operations
- Act as the day‑to‑day liaison between the Finance team and the campaigning operations.
- Work closely with these teams to track and manage their budgets.
- Reviewing these budgets each quarter to ensure that they remain relevant and achievable.
- Work closely with the financial compliance team to ensure that the Party can track real time election spend and produce comprehensive reports to support quick management decision making.
- Oversee the Accounts Payable function and have accountability for the expenses and invoice processes, ensuring that the system has sufficient built‑in controls to manage and capture election spend.
- Line manage the Accounts Payable Assistant.
- Support the operations with ad‑hoc queries resulting from monthly Management Accounts reports.
- Work across the Finance and Financial Compliance teams on ad‑hoc projects to improve systems of financial governance and compliance.
- Support the operations to access their own financial information via our new analytics platform and upskill managers to use this information to support decision making.
- Support the preparation and submission of the quarterly VAT return for the Party.
- Supporting the Financial Controller with reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts.
- Maintaining a timely month‑end/year‑end closure procedure.
- Establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with key stakeholders.
- Support colleagues on the Finance team with ad‑hoc projects as and when required.
Your professional experience
- Part qualified accountant ACCA/CIMA or equivalent.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary Finance team within a small to medium size organisation.
- Exceptional organisational and administrative skills with the ability to work to strict deadlines.
- A strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities.
- Detail orientated, great numeracy skills and experience using Excel.
- Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written.
- Comfortable in dealing with stakeholders at all levels in the organisation.
- A good team player with a “can do” flexible and professional approach.
- The ability to work independently, be proactive with use plenty of initiative.
