About Us

The Compass Centre is a new and innovative alternative education provider dedicated to supporting young people who face barriers to learning in mainstream settings. We work in partnership with schools, local authorities, and families to re-engage learners through personalised education pathways, therapeutic support, and positive relationships.

As a growing organisation, we are committed to building a team that is passionate about inclusion, trauma-informed practice, and helping every learner succeed — no matter their starting point.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated and highly organised Alternative Provision Coordinator to lead the day-to-day planning, coordination, and quality assurance of our education programmes for learners with complex needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This is a pivotal role, requiring strong leadership, safeguarding knowledge, and a deep understanding of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) to ensure that every young person receives a tailored, high-quality provision that meets their academic, emotional, and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provision Coordination & Delivery

• Plan, oversee and coordinate personalised learning pathways for each student.

• Ensure educational provision is tailored to individual EHCP outcomes and support needs.

• Liaise with teaching staff, mentors, therapists, and external providers to deliver an integrated programme.

• Monitor pupil progress and adjust interventions as needed.

EHCP & SEND Management

• Interpret and implement the requirements of EHCPs for each learner.

• Work closely with SEND officers, parents/carers, and external professionals to review progress.

• Attend and contribute to Annual Reviews and multi-agency meetings.

• Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing

• Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead.

• Ensure robust safeguarding and risk management practices are in place.

• Promote a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environment.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Develop strong working relationships with mainstream schools, local authorities, and families.

• Provide regular reports on attendance, attainment, behaviour, and wellbeing.

• Lead on admissions, referrals, and initial assessments.

Leadership & Development

• Line manage support staff, tutors, and mentors as required.

• Support recruitment, induction, and training of new staff.

• Contribute to the strategic development and continuous improvement of the provision.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Proven experience working with young people with complex needs / SEND.

• Strong understanding of EHCPs, the SEND Code of Practice, and safeguarding frameworks.

• Experience coordinating alternative education or pastoral programmes.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

• Ability to lead a small team and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Youth Work, or relevant Level 5+ qualification.

• DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or willingness to train.

• Experience working with excluded, at-risk, or NEET learners.

• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.

What We Offer

• A chance to shape a growing provision and make a real difference.

• Supportive, values-driven leadership.

• Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.

• Pension scheme and potential for performance-based progression.
