About the Company
Dynamo AI builds infrastructure and software that help enterprises deploy AI systems that are reliable, secure, observable, scalable, and production-ready.
The company provides AI infrastructure, evaluation frameworks, and real-time guardrails that enable regulated enterprises, including Fortune 500 companies and global financial institutions, to operationalize AI at scale.
About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the continued expansion of the engineering organization from approximately 25 people toward a significantly larger, globally distributed team.
This is an executive-level leadership role with direct ownership of engineering hiring, organizational design, leadership development, operating cadence, and technical culture across AI engineering and deployment engineering.
You will work closely with the founders and have significant decision-making authority over how the engineering organization scales, how teams are structured, and how engineering contributes to product and go-to-market strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Organization & Scaling
-
Lead the engineering organization through a period of rapid growth while maintaining execution quality and operating discipline.
-
Scale the organization from approximately 25 engineers toward 100+ engineers.
-
Design and evolve the organizational structure required to support a globally distributed engineering function.
-
Establish effective management layers and cross-functional coordination mechanisms.
-
Build and develop engineering leaders across the organization.
Engineering Operations
-
Establish engineering planning and operating rhythms.
-
Define prioritization frameworks, hiring standards, onboarding processes, and performance expectations.
-
Build an engineering culture capable of maintaining high execution standards as the organization scales.
-
Ensure effective collaboration across AI engineering and deployment engineering teams.
Technical Leadership
-
Provide technical leadership and judgment across AI engineering, machine learning, deployment, and production infrastructure.
-
Engage substantively with technical leaders across both AI development and production systems.
-
Help shape the technical organization required to support reliable, scalable AI products.
-
Maintain strong engineering standards across architecture, development, deployment, and production operations.
Executive & External Leadership
-
Partner directly with the founders on organizational strategy and engineering headcount planning.
-
Influence decisions affecting product development and go-to-market strategy.
-
Represent the engineering organization with customers, partners, and the broader technical community.
-
Serve as a credible public-facing technical leader for the company.
Required Qualifications
-
Demonstrated experience scaling an engineering organization from approximately 25 to 100+ people, with direct accountability for hiring, organizational structure, and leadership development.
-
Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
-
Strong technical credibility across both AI engineering and deployment/production infrastructure.
-
Experience operating through a significant organizational scaling phase beyond an early-stage engineering team.
-
Strong experience building and developing engineering leaders.
-
Excellent public-facing communication skills and the ability to represent engineering with customers, partners, and technical audiences.
-
Demonstrated ability to work closely with founders and executive leadership on organizational and technical strategy.
-
Education from a highly regarded university or equivalent demonstrated caliber through professional experience.
-
Based in or willing to relocate to New York, NY or London, UK.
-
Ability to work in person four days per week, with either Tuesday or Friday available as the remote day.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience at a company of comparable scale during Series D or Series E, ideally in a senior engineering leadership position one level below Director.
-
Experience building engineering organizations spanning AI research, applied machine learning, and production deployment.
-
Experience as a founding or early engineering leader who successfully transitioned an organization from an early-stage team into a larger-scale engineering function.
-
Experience operating in highly technical, AI-native, or rapidly scaling technology companies.
