Job Title: Junior Technical Analyst
Location: London
Reporting Line: Investment Analyst
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (3-6 months)
Who We Are
Founded in 2002 as a pioneering hedge fund, Marble Bar has built its reputation on intellectual discipline, research, data-driven insight and a deep understanding of investment behaviours. Since its founding, the firm has helped portfolio managers identify repeatable processes within their investment practice and sustain their edge in constantly evolving markets. For over twenty years, we have successfully identified exceptional managers and created environments to help them generate durable returns.
What We Do
The firm is building a market-neutral quantamental equity platform integrating discretionary investing, systematic research and artificial intelligence into a single decision-making framework. AI is embedded throughout the investment lifecycle from research, screening and idea generation through to portfolio construction, risk management, monitoring and post-trade analysis.
Our objective is not simply to invest with AI, but to build a platform where technology meaningfully enhances the quality, speed and consistency of every investment decision.
We are a shared operating system purpose built to support hedge fund managers at every stage of their lifecycle, from launch and early operational resilience to performance development, capital formation, and long‑term scale.
This has established Marble Bar as the leading home for exceptional managers wishing to create unique and independent investment firms with the freedom to focus on investing.
Your Role
We are recruiting a Junior Technical Analyst to join the founding investment team of a next‑generation, AI‑enabled equity hedge fund. This is a tech‑savvy desk assistant role: the engine room of the desk, handling the desk's reporting requests to institutional standards while using Python and AI to automate, streamline and improve how the team works. It is an outstanding entry point into institutional investing for someone technical, curious and hungry to learn, with direct exposure to an experienced Chief Investment Officer from day one.
Your Key Areas of Impact
The Junior Technical Analyst supports the desk day-to-day and is expected to become fluent in the firm's tools, data and pipelines quickly. The role centres on reporting and coding: turning around the desk's reporting requests quickly and reliably, and building the automation that makes them scale.
Reporting & Desk Support
- Turn around ad-hoc reporting requests from the desk quickly and to a high standard.
- Produce single-stock reports on demand, pulling price action, newsflow and earnings context into a clear, consistent format.
- Monitor watchlist moves and flag notable developments to the team.
- Track upcoming catalysts earnings, capital markets days and other market-moving events and keep the desk's calendars current.
Coding & Automation
- Use Python to gather, clean and analyse market and fundamental data.
- Build screens and pages within the firm's system, using AI-assisted coding to move quickly from idea to working output.
- Build and maintain scripts that automate recurring reporting tasks: stock report generation, watchlist monitoring and data pulls.
- Help ensure data quality across the platform, flagging and fixing issues quickly.
AI-Assisted Workflows
- Use AI agents and LLMs daily to draft reports, capture newsflow and summarise company and macro developments.
- Write and refine prompts, checklists and agent workflows that make the desk's output faster and more consistent.
- Spot repetitive analytical tasks and build practical AI-driven automations for them.
Tools & Dashboards
- Work with the technology team to test, improve and extend the firm's proprietary screens, pages and dashboards.
- Contribute to dashboards and reporting that improve the team's oversight of positions and markets.
- Document what you build so the desk can rely on it without you in the room.
Success is measured by the speed and quality of your reporting turnaround and the tangible automation you build around it.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a junior candidate from strong graduates to those with up to two years' relevant experience whose core strength is technical: proficient in Python, quick with data and fluent in AI-assisted coding. Candidates should meet the essential criteria and demonstrate several of the desirable ones.
Essential Criteria
- Work with the technology team to test, improve and extend the firm's proprietary screens, pages and dashboards.
- Strong academic record in a numerate or technical discipline (e.g. computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics or similar).
- Proficiency in Python: comfortable writing clean, reliable code to handle and analyse data.
- Experience with AI-assisted coding (e.g. Claude, Copilot, Cursor) to build tools, screens and reports quickly.
- Highly organised and responsive, able to turn around ad-hoc requests quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
Desirable
- Genuine interest in equity markets and investing.
- Familiarity with pandas, APIs and modern data tooling; experience building dashboards or simple front-ends.
- Internship or up to two years' experience in finance, data or technology.
- Exposure to an institutional data platform such as Bloomberg, FactSet or Refinitiv.
- Evidence of building tools, scripts or automations used by others.
Personal Attributes
Beyond the criteria above, we are looking for someone who is:
- Intellectually curious, with a genuine passion for technology and an interest in markets.
- Proactive, self-directed and comfortable figuring things out without a template.
- Meticulous in execution, with high standards for accuracy and reliability.
- Calm under pressure and comfortable working at pace on a live desk.
- Collaborative, low-ego and happy to be hands‑on with unglamorous tasks.
- Motivated by building something exceptional rather than maintaining the status quo.
