We have an exciting paid 12-month internship opportunity for someone looking to take their first step into a science communication or publishing role. This position will sit within the editorial department, working closely with our community site managers and the marketing team, to promote the activities of our five journals and build on our connections with the scientific community.
Core responsibilities:
- Creating engaging written and audiovisual content to promote our journals and support authors in navigating the publishing process, with a focus on global reach.
- Raising the journals’ and Company’s visibility in China through developing the Company’s WeChat channel.
- Supporting the journal teams in highlighting scientific papers and developing additional routes to better promote journal articles (e.g. alternative format summaries).
- Supporting the journal teams and marketing department with social media and short-form content for journal websites.
- Identifying and coordinating opportunities for cross-journal content promotion.
- Creating content for the Company website with a focus on bringing together our charitable and journal activities.
What we are looking for:
The successful applicant will have:
- A science degree in a field relevant to one or more of our journals. Research experience or a PhD is desirable but not essential.
- Experience (formal or informal) with science communication through social media, writing or outreach activities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible language.
- Strong interpersonal skills and networking abilities.
We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates with:
- Experience with web content management systems (e.g. WordPress) for creating online content.
- Understanding of data and metrics analysis and reporting (e.g. Google Analytics; confident use of Excel).
This is a great opportunity within a well-established publishing company. Based at our offices on the outskirts of Cambridge (with opportunities for up to 50% working from home), you will learn about multiple aspects of scientific publishing, interact with the scientific community and hone your communication skills. This is a fixed-term 12-month position and candidates must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for consideration. The salary range for this internship is £31,000 - £35,000.
