The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 member governments that provides guidance on policy making, technical assistance and advisory services to its member states, supporting sustainable, inclusive and equitable development.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating outreach amongst Blue Charter member countries and partners, assisting the organisation of Blue Charter meetings, and project management of the Commonwealth Blue Charter Incubator Grants Programme. They will also contribute to strategic planning discussions for the Commonwealth Blue Charter, particularly concerning outreach and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Blue Charter Outreach Manager and Ocean Advisers, preparing key correspondence and materials, organising Action Group meetings, knowledge sharing opportunities such as webinars and trainings, and coordinating outreach to member countries, partners and funders;
  • Implement Commonwealth Blue Charter Incubator Grants, including working with countries to develop grant proposals, coordinating grant documentation and frameworks, reviewing proposals, contract management of grants, payment processing, reporting to funders, and related tasks;
  • Contribute to the preparation of work plans and budgets, and monitor and report on budget/programme performance within a results-based management context;
  • Assist in developing strategic partnerships to advance the intervention of the Commonwealth Secretariat for the benefit of member countries and their Action Groups;
  • Assist in resource mobilisation to support member countries in implementing ocean governance and Blue Charter actions.

Qualifications

To be considered you must have:

  • A first degree in Business Administration, Law, Political Science, Environmental Science/Policy, Social Science, Communications or a related field;
  • Minimum of five years of combined experience in project coordination, outreach, communications, grant management or external relations activities, preferably in an international development setting;
  • Good understanding of ocean issues, experience working with one or more Commonwealth governments, and/or experience implementing grants is desirable.

The position may include some overseas travel.
