A leading fresh produce company is seeking an experienced Buying Manager to join their growing business in Cambridgeshire. This permanent role offers a salary range of £40,000 to £45,000 per annum, with a start date as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement of fruit from global suppliers, focusing on grapes and citrus. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Agreeing timely programmes with suppliers ahead of each season
  2. Conducting end-of-year performance reviews
  3. Liaising with suppliers on shipping programmes and seasonal issues
  4. Collaborating with technical colleagues on documentation and due diligence
  5. Producing weekly programmes for Spanish supply and purchase orders for deep-sea shipments
  6. Managing stock efficiently to minimise waste and limit dwell times
  7. Ensuring margin delivery through returns management and adherence to Terms of Trade
  8. Working with finance to process advance payments to suppliers as needed

The ideal candidate should possess:

  1. Experience in produce procurement, particularly in grapes and/or citrus
  2. Knowledge of supplier relationship management in a commercial environment
  3. Up-to-date understanding of import regulations and DEFRA requirements
  4. Excellent communication and influencing skills
  5. CIPS qualification (advantageous)
